A singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Toronto, Ontario, Johann's sound is best described as warm and airy yet rhythmic, a blend he aims to master under the roof of alternative rock and pop. Citing artists and bands such as Beach House, Foo Fighters, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and Toro y Moi (among many others) as fundamental influences, Johann writes using simple guitars and layered vocals—building blocks that carry his conversations of love, loss and solitude.

Beginning as a drummer for various bands throughout high school and university, Johann naturally felt most comfortable behind the drum kit—though he has always enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. Due to the pandemic and the inability to play with other musicians physically, Johann decided to realize some of his written material that hadn't seen the light of day and went to work on and release his first project, "Johann, Demos" (2020). Improving his production and songwriting chops, he continued to work on another body of old and new songs, turning into his first studio EP, "Becoming Routine" (2022).

With his 2024 LP, "Surrendering Sunday," Johann furthers the scope of his sound with more emphasis on distorted guitars and drums. He sees this album as a blueprint for what kind of music he wants to write and record going forward, intending to contribute significantly to this generation's up-and-coming alternative and indie artists/bands.
